Colibri Mexican Bistro is located in San Francisco's bustling Theater District area. If you are on your way to see an evening show, stop by Colibri's to enjoy some delicious, authentic central Mexican cuisine. Everything is always made fresh with nothing pre-made, stored and re-heated. On weekends, diners can also stop in to enjoy a Mexican style brunch, which includes a bottomless mimosa. This classy bistro is decorated with Spanish art, as well as a collection of antique tequila bottles. The atmosphere created is sophisticated but friendly, paired with a warm and inviting staff.
Mexican owners of the restaurant created their menu from the dishes they enjoyed as children growing up in Mexico. Their authentic Guacamole can be made spiced to order and comes with hand made, corn tortillas. In addition to the Guacamole, a must have appetizer are the tamales, available as pork, chicken or cheese. Bite into the most succulent, smooth corn wrap that you have ever tasted. They also offer three different salsas: spicy, tomatillo and pineapple.
From the Especialidades, the Pato en Mole Verde Pipián is a favorite. This pan seared duck breast comes cooked to tender perfection, served with a sumptuous green mole sauce. Delicious vegetarian friendly dishes include a decadent Tortita de Papas, a unique recipe of potatoes and breaded cheese served in a tomato sauce with various fresh veggies. As well, the Chile Relleno with the vegetable and cheese option is a heavenly meatless choice.
Even if you are not normally a chocolate lover, the Pastel de chocolate, will leave you drooling over your plate. This Mexican style chocolate cake is served warm and soft, mounted with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Another decadent indulgence to try is the Crepas con cajeta, a crepe filled with creamy caramel, topped off with vanilla ice cream.
